Class Economy Freebie!!

I recently started a new management system in my classroom since coming back from the break. It is the second year that I have done this and I will probably continue to do it each year. It is called our "Class Economy". My awesome team leader, Heather Gower, created it! Basically, students are able to earn pennies for making good choices and can also lose pennies for making sad choices.  They can save up their money to purchase things from our class store on Fridays. They can also trade in 5 pennies for a nickel, 2 nickels for a dime, etc. along the way.  This is such a big help in reinforcing and practicing counting and exchanging money. I will continue this management system to the end of school. My kids ab.so.lute.ly LOVE it!! They get so excited when they get to exchange for a different coin and also get to shop at our store!

For set up, I basically have the posters posted on my cabinets so that my students can see what they can do to earn pennies, lose pennies, or what they can save up to buy. I also have a little metal bucket that I keep all the plastic coins in. Each student also gets a baggie to keep their money in. My door partner was able to purchase small plastic containers which are perfect, but I haven't been able to find them yet. :(

My bucket to hold the coins and one of my student's baggies with his money inside.

I have the free download of the documents for y'all to take and edit for your own classroom!! Heather said she didn't mind me sharing it with y'all! ENJOY!

Ps- I had so many cute "old people" in my classroom on the 100th day! They were SO cute! but unfortunately I cant post their pictures. SOOO, here is my door partner, Jenn, and I as old ladies! :) We did the gray hair, glasses, and wrinkles! The kids were kind of freaked out with how old we looked!

  5. Great economy incentive. I've heard of variations on this idea. Will have to introduce it if I ever have older children.

I love the dress up for the 100th day of school! Will have to remember that for next year!
